Program Description:
HealthQwest provides professionally supervised Methadone maintenance and medical withdrawal as a licensed Narcotic Treatment Program (NTP) in the state of Georgia.
As such, HealthQwest seeks to provide holistic rehabilitation services for patients 18 years of age or older and who are opiate dependant and are currently residing in Warner Robbins and/or the surrounding counties. HealthQwest is pleased to offer an array of services to those seeking treatment, such as, medical and psychiatric evaluations and referrals; individual, group, and specialized counseling; case management; crisis intervention; and the provision of comprehensive coordination of care among other providers.
Program Goals:
The primary goal of HealthQwest is to promote and support abstinence from opiates and all illicit drugs. Methadone Maintenance Treatment is also used to achieve the secondary goal of decreasing high risk behavior such as IV drug use, unsafe sex, illegal activity, and overdose. The range of services offered by HealthQwest should allow each patient to achieve stability and recovery in all aspects of their lives.
What is MMT?
Methadone Maintenance Treatment Is the Most Effective Treatment for Opiate Addiction. Methadone is a synthetic agent that works by "occupying" the brain receptor sites affected by heroin and other opiates. Methadone:
- blocks the euphoric and sedating effects of opiates;
- relieves the craving for opiates that is a major factor in relapse;
- relieves symptoms associated with withdrawal from opiates;
- does not cause euphoria or intoxication itself (with stable dosing), thus allowing a person to work and participate normally in society; is excreted slowly so it can be taken only once a day.
Methadone maintenance treatment, a program in which addicted individuals receive daily doses of methadone, was initially developed during the 1960s as part of a broad, multicomponent treatment program that also emphasized resocialization and vocational training.
